A CNA or Certified nursing assistant is a person who is trained to assist individuals with their daily healthcare needs and as well as with their regular day-to-day activities. These individuals are trained in all basic nursing procedures and usually work under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed nurse. Certified nursing assistants serve an important role in the field of health care. They are required to undergo formal CNA training classes before they are allowed to practice. All nursing assistants are required to undergo a 3certain number of hours in both theoretical and practical training even if licensing procedures are different per country.

Nursing assistants must undergo CNA training classes through state-approved training programs. The training period constitutes a minimum of 50 hours of theoretical learning and 100 hours of clinical training under proper supervision. Those who complete this program are given the title Certified Nursing Assistants or State Tested Nurse Aid. After being given the title, they are included on the state registry of nursing aides. Each nursing assistant is required 48 hours of continuing education every 24 months to maintain his or her license.

A mastery of a basic set of nursing assistant skills is an important requirement before someone is certified to become a nursing assistant. These skills indicate a nursing assistant’s preparedness and ability to handle the needs of patients. Before nursing assistants are allowed to work in health care facilities or in homes, they should be able to show complete mastery of these set of skills. CNA training classes include proper training in any situation that requires the services of a nursing assistant, though most nursing assistants are asked to service the elderly.

While most hospital units don’t have nursing assistants, there are some units that may require their services However, they are not usually present in high stress units like ICUs and CCUs due to the patients’ critical condition. Nursing assistants are perhaps the ones that spend most of their time with patients compared to everyone else that constitute the hospital staff. Bathing, feeding and grooming the patients are some of the duties of nursing assistants. Knowledge of basic medical procedures like testing for vital signs is also an important part of their training. These procedures are included in CNA training classes. Nursing assistants are not only responsible for making sure that patients are comfortable, they also offer important social and emotional support. . Patients that require the care and attention of nursing assistant are those who need constant supervision due to a health condition or old age. Nursing assistants have become invaluable in the field of health care.
