3 Costs Associated With Using A Commercial Tanning Bed

Tanning has become a popular way to stay bronzed and beautiful all year long. Tanning in a commercial tanning bed can help you look your best, but what are the costs associated with that beautiful, bronzed look? You'll need to consider the cost of tanning time or buying your own bed and indoor tanning lotions.

Tanning Time In The Salon

Time in the tanning booth can get expensive. One session can cost as much as $20, depending on where you live or how long you stay in the booth. These costs can easily add up quickly since most tanners start out by going a couple of times per week. Although your tanning sessions won't need to be as frequent after you've been tanning for a while, you can still easily spend thousands of dollars every year.

Also included, but not often considered, are the hidden costs of tanning. You'll need to drive to the salon and should include the cost of gas and the time spent in the car as hidden costs. If you go to a popular salon, you may end up waiting a long time, even if you have an appointment.

Buying Your Own Commercial Tanning Bed

Some people look for tanning beds for sale so they can buy their own personal bed. Doing this means you won't have to worry about taking the time to drive to the salon or make appointments.

Buying a bed isn't exactly cost free, however. You'll need to consider the cost of the bed itself, as well as any associated maintenance costs, such as replacement light bulbs, cleaners, and the electricity used to power the machine. Some machines require a specially trained maintenance technician to change out the bulbs, while others are easy enough for nearly anyone to do it. If your bed requires a professional, consider the costs of a home repair visit since you won't be able to bring the bed into the technician's office.

You'll also need to buy special cleaner. The cleaners are designed not to damage the bed's surface. A little goes a long way, especially if you're the only one using the bed, so you'll only need to buy cleaner sparingly.

Many people choose to finance their bed, spreading the cost out over a longer period of time. If you do choose to go this route, make sure to take notice of any finance charges that go along with the financing.

Lotions

Whether you choose to tan at home or in a salon, lotion is an important part of tanning. While the lotion can be pricey, it's important to buy and use lotion designed just for tanning beds. The lotion used by tanners is specially designed to minimize the drying effects of the light bulbs, while not affecting the acrylic surface of the tanning bed.

Both tanning at home and in a salon's commercial tanning beds have costs associated with them. It's up to you to determine which choice is right for you. Whichever option you choose, don't forget to buy and apply lotion to protect your skin and the surface of the bed.
