Drinking and driving is a huge problem in much of the world. Many laws exist to prevent drinking and driving accidents. Also many myths exist about drinking and driving. Unfortunately many buy into these myths which only increase their chances of being involved in a drinking and driving accident.

Over the course of this article I am going to introduce to you 5 common myths about driving and driving. I do this so you will be better educated about consuming alcohol and driving a vehicle as I want to increase your safety and the safety of others.

First, it is estimated that on a Friday or Saturday that 1 out of every 10 drivers is over the legal alcohol limit. The legal limit is 0.08% blood alcohol concentration which is fairly low but it is the law in all 50 on the United States. Think about this the next time you go out on a Friday or Saturday night.

Second, there is more to getting drunk than just how many drinks you have consumed. Counting you drinks is good but other factors like time, food, current health, your mood all contribute to becoming drunk. Having ample food in your system and the type of food makes a difference. You health makes a difference to how you react to the alcohol. Just don't count drinks and say "well I only had two beers I should be fine." What if that person drank two beers in 5 minutes in 100 degree heat on an empty stomach while dehydrated? Would that be a problem?

Third, when you have consumed too much alcohol and feel you can not drive the only thing that will improve your condition is time. That means drinking coffee or eating a large meal will not all of sudden make you right to drive. Only time where the body rids itself of the alcohol will do you any good. Do not try to load up on coffee on order to drive home; it will only make you ill.

Fourth, most people that get arrested for DUI is because they commit a basic moving violation such as speeding, failure to maintain a lane, driving to slow or turning too wide. In many cases the drive is completely unaware they were driving poorly.

Fifth and last, mixing alcohol with a carbonated drink causes the alcohol to enter the bloodstream faster. Think about this next you go out and have a mixed drink that contains soda or a product like Red Bull. You are better off mixing your drink with water and even better off your do not drink and drive all together.

There you have 5 basic facts about drinking and driving. I hope you never drink and drive and never let someone tell you that a few drinks before driving will not hurt you. Anytime you operate a motor vehicle and consume alcohol you are at risk for getting arrested for DUI.
